Sharpening: Kitchen Knives

In this class, participants will learn to sharpen their own kitchen knives! Pocket knives with fixed blades can also be sharpened during the class. We will also discuss the different types of sharpening media, key terminology, and proper knife maintenance so your knives stay sharper, longer.

- straight bladed, with no serrations
- clean with no severe rust or pitting
- in working order with no severe damage - e.g., the handle is falling off, or a chip in the blade greater than the thickness of a pencil lead
- made of steel, no ceramic or carbide blades

Instructor: Logan Simms
My name is Logan Simms. For my 18th birthday, my father and I took a hand tool woodworking course from master artisan Paul Sellers. I was instantly hooked! I spent several years honing my craft, woodworking professionally in my hometown of Greenwich, NY, and subsequently teaching with Master Sellers and on my own at the Maplewood Center for Common Craft. While I have since moved into another realm of professional work, I continue my passion in an amateur status, teaching and doing what I love whenever I get the opportunity.
